Insurance Licensing: DC Warning of Fraudulent Calls - Supportive Insurance Services

WARNING: Insurance producers licensed in the District of Columbia may receive a call from unknown persons fraudulently claiming to be staff of the “D. C. Insurance Licensing Section.” The fraudster-callers are warning of pending suspension of producers’ licenses due to noncompliance with the newly implemented fingerprinting requirement for certain D.C. resident producers. Fraudster-callers are requesting personal information as well as credit card information.

Please be aware this is NOT a legitimate call from the District of Columbia Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB). The newly implemented fingerprinting requirement applies to new applicants for a resident insurance producer’s license only. In the event a legitimate license renewal or suspension is contemplated, District licensed producers would be contacted by mail or email correspondence directly from DISB and on DISB letterhead.

If you receive such a call, do not provide any personal information to the caller and please email the details of the call to DISB directly by contacting Stephen Perry, Associate Commissioner for Enforcement and Investigations, at stephen.perry@dc.gov.
