The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is in the process of moving its database to a new system. During this time, producers may submit an application or renewal application to the MIA in one of two ways:
- Submit a Uniform Initial or Renewal Application form with the applicable fee due directly by mail to the MIA; or
- Submit an online application via the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) through www.nipr.com
NOTE: If a producer submits a renewal application at least two calendar weeks before his/her license expires; the license does not expire until the MIA takes final action.
It takes the MIA about 10-14 business days to process paper forms. The MIA can only confirm a paper application has been submitted once it is has been entered into the licensing system. During this transition time, if insurers or any interested parties want a copy of the license, they will need to accept a demographic screen print from the MIA license system that shows approval of the renewal application. Contact the customer service unit at 1-888-204-6198 to request a faxed copy of the screen print.
Insurers may also access the NIPR Producer Database (PDB)to verify issuance or renewal of a license. The PDB is updated within 72 hours of the state’s approval of the license application.
Please also note: The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) including the Insurance Fraud Division, moved to a new location effective May 4, 2009. The new address is 200 St. Paul Place, Suite 2700,
Baltimore, MD 21202.
