The North Carolina Department of Insurance cancelled many individual Surplus Lines licenses for failure to pay the required license renewal fee by August 31, 2011 for the 2011-2012 license period.
Individuals whose licenses were cancelled must reapply for licensure and pay the registration fee online at www.nipr.com. Individuals are subject to a $1,000 or more penalty if they place surplus lines insurance without a surplus lines license.
If there is a discrepancy regarding the renewal payment, the following documentation should be sent via e-mail to ASDfinancial@ncdoi.gov:
- License information and a copy of the cancelled check (front and back) verifying payment if renewal was paid directly to ASD.
- License information and the NIPR renewal transaction number if renewal was paid through NIPR.
